Google reverses its decision: Only "forgotten" links will be deleted

Google has made a significant change to its previously announced decision to shut down its short URL service goo.gl.
The company has abandoned its plan to stop all links from working on August 25, 2025. Under the new decision, only links that have been unused for a long time will be disabled.
Google discontinued support for creating new links in 2019, and since then, only existing goo.gl links have been allowed to function. However, in a statement released in July 2024, it was announced that all of these links would be disabled.
IT HAS NOT BEEN CLICKED IN THE LAST MONTH
The company cited the fact that most of the links had not been clicked in the last month as the reason for the decision.
However, following intense user backlash, Google reversed its decision. Google emphasized that goo.gl links are still actively used in many digital documents, videos, and other content, and announced its updated decision. With this change, actively used links will remain accessible, while only links that have not received any interaction for a long time will be removed from the system.
